Emily Powell is a North Carolina native who moved from Carrboro to Asheville in 2012. She went to UNC Asheville with the intention of studying speech therapy but by chance took a 30 minute walk-in class at the North Carolina Glass Center. She fell in love with the medium of glass and has worked diligently to become a career glassblowing artist.
Emily currently resides in Sylva, NC. She is a full-time artist and is a graduate student at Western Carolina University pursuing a Master’s degree in entrepreneurship. She blows glass at the Jackson County Green Energy Park, a studio in Western North Carolina that reuses methane from the county landfill to power the studio. Additionally, she has a home studio where she works with borosilicate glass to create marbles, pendants and other items.
