ALL DEADLINES HAVE PASSED FOR THE 2016-17 YEAR-END REPORTS AS WELL AS THE 2017-18 SUBGRANT APPLICATIONS. THE REVIEW PROCESS HAS BEGAN FOR THE DETERMINATION OF 2017-18 GRANT AWARDS. GRANT APPLICANTS WILL BE NOTIFIED OF GRANT DETERMINATIONS WITHIN THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF SEPTEMBER.

Grassroots Sponsorship Information and Application

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION – JUNE 30, 2017 for project completed by June 30, 2018

Sponsorship REPORTS FOR THE FY17-18 PERIOD ARE DUE ONE MONTH AFTER THE PROJECT ENDS TO THE JACKSON COUNTY ARTS COUNCIL OFFICE.

Grassroots Sponsorship Facts & Guidelines

Grassroots Sponsorships are awarded to organizations in all cultural disciplines through a competitive application and review process. This sponsorship program is funded in part by the North Carolina Arts Council and by the fundraising efforts of the Jackson County Arts Council.

Grassroots sponsorships are intended to:

  • Provide modest funding for events/projects and publicity/advertising for Artist Groups/ Artist organizations that will enhance the presence of art events in Jackson County
  • Support opportunities for Jackson County residents to participate in new and thought-provoking art events in MUSIC, VISUAL ART, THEATER, DANCE, and LITERATURE
  • Celebrate the traditional arts and cultures of Jackson County as well as the multicultural aspect of arts in general.

Examples of typical programs funded:

  • Performances
  • Art exhibitions
  • Artist residencies in schools
  • Classes/ workshops
  • Art walks / studio tours
  • Festival
  • After-school arts programs / art camps
  • Arts marketing including website development and research

Grassroots Sponsorships WILL NOT LIKELY FUND the following:

  • Projects that request more than $1200.00
  • Projects to individual artists (however, artists may be contracted by a larger overseeing body that will need their services to complete a project.)
  • Religious organizations or churches may not receive Grassroots funds unless the programs are presented outside regular church services, engage the larger community, and do not contain religious content.
  • Academic study.
  • Any sponsorship that seeks to pay for past debts, legal fees, the purchase of real estate, moves to other cities, personal travel, or to pay for the costs of installations, commissions or projects ordered by others.
  • Sponsorship for event-enhancement where the thrust of the event is for-profit
  • Capital expenditures (e.g. building/space rental)
  • Food or beverages for hospitality or entertainment functions
  • Grants may not be awarded for prizes, competitions, scholarships, tuition or financial awards.

Rules upon receiving a grant from the Jackson County Arts Council:

  1. If logistics/time frame of project change, the Art Council must be contacted
  2. All publicity must include new JCAC logo AND North Carolina Arts Council Logo AND Tagline.  These can be accessed below.
  3. Copies of all publicity should be saved to be turned in with required sponsorship report form on or before May 30th of the grant year to the JCAC Arts Council.
  4. All performance/display venues should be ADA accessible and open to the public.

The Jackson County Arts Council serves as lead for the Western North Carolina Regional Consortium, and receives the Regional Artist Project grant applications, schedules regional training sessions for artists, and manages the grant selection process.  For more information, contact the Jackson County Arts Council at info@jacksoncountyarts.org.
