This year, members of the Jackson County Arts Council have been invited to set up in the yard across the street from Dogwood Crafters selling their art work at the 10th annual Colorfest festival in Dillsboro. This will be a great opportunity for the festival visitors to meet you and see your work as well as the chance to visit amongst each other. Applications open for Regional Artist Project Grants!!! We encourage Jackson County artists to apply for this funding.
This Regional Artist Project grant (RAPG) is funded by the Art League of Highlands-Cashiers & the Greater Plateau, Cherokee County Arts Council, Clay County Historical & Arts Council, Haywood County Arts Council, Jackson County Arts Council, and the Stecoah Valley Arts, Crafts & Educational Center, Inc., with matching dollars from the North Carolina Arts Cou…ncil.
Grants in this consortium are available to artists in Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Jackson, and Macon counties. Both individual artists and small, unincorporated groups of collaborating artists (i.e., guitar duo, jazz quartet, bluegrass band) are eligible. An artist must have residence in the region for at least one year to be eligible. Previous RAPG recipients must wait two years before being eligible to reapply. Projects must take place between December 2018 and June 2019.
To apply for funding, fill out the following application and return to the Haywood County Arts Council at 86 N. Main Street, Waynesville, NC. Mailed applications should be sent to Haywood County Arts Council, P.O. Box 306, Waynesville, NC 28786. The deadline for submissions is October 5, 2018. Public Notice of Annual Members Meeting
The Jackson County Arts Council cordially invites all current members of the Jackson County Arts Council, local and state officials and executive members of art centers and educational institutions to our 2018 Annual Members Meeting on Monday, June 25th from 6p – 8p. This event will be held in the Community Room of the Jackson County Public Library Annex. A small reception will follow in the Atrium downstairs. We will have staff on site to help you join or renew your sponsorship of the JCAC for the FY 2018-2019 (July-June).
This year the JCAC has been able to sponsor many different events, artists, organizations and art forms throughout our community. We have also purchased a Baby Grand Piano for community use in the JC Public Library Community Room. We look forward to sharing with you some of the amazing things we have supported on your behalf. We will also offer entertainment during the evening and a small reception to say THANK YOU for supporting the arts in Jackson County.

Yona Wade – Soloist
The Jackson County Arts Council proudly presents a CHRISTMAS CONCERT featuring Yona Wade, soloist. He will be accompanied by Tracey Bailey, pianist and Kathy McConnell and Kitty Brooks as guest artists. They will be singing traditional and contemporary Christmas music.
Yona Wade, Director of the Chief Joyce Dugan Cultural Arts Center, Public Relations, and Development has been with Cherokee Central Schools since 2009. Previously with Qualla Arts and Crafts Mutual, Inc., Mr. Wade has knowledge of the Arts and Crafts of the Cherokee, as well as comes from a long line of basket makers. Mr. Wade serves on the Jackson County Arts Council in addition to various community councils and committees. Mr. Wade is a William C. Friday Fellow for Human Relations and a Salzburg Fellow of the Salzburg Seminar. Yona is a graduate of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts with a Bachelors of Music from the School of Music and Masters of Fine Arts in Performing Arts Management, from the school of Design and Production. Mr. Wade resides in the Paint Town community of Cherokee, NC and is a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.
